Space menu & Ideas
When you don't know what comes next, press Space on an empty line. A small menu, ✨ Write here, offers to continue the song, write a verse or a chorus, write whatever you describe, or suggest ideas. It reads the whole song first, so what it writes fits what's already there.
Where to find it
Put the cursor on an empty line and press Space. The line can be in the middle of a section, at the end of the song, or the first line of an empty song. The menu opens at the cursor:
- Describe what to write…: type your own request, for example "two lines about the drive home with the radio off", and press Enter.
- Continue writing: the next line or two, picking up from where you are.
- Write a verse: a verse of about four to six lines.
- Write a chorus: a short chorus of about two to four lines.
- Ideas: suggestions for what to write here. Nothing is written yet.
The same options are in the / menu, in its Write ✨ group: Continue writing, Write a verse here, Write a chorus here and Ideas. To use them, type / on an empty line.
Press Esc to close the menu. If you meant to type a space, just keep typing on a line that already has words: the menu only opens on an empty one.
Step by step
- Press Enter at the end of a line to make a new, empty line.
- Press Space. Use the arrow keys or the mouse to pick an option, or type in Describe what to write….
- The new lines appear at the cursor as a suggestion, marked so you can tell them from your own.
- Choose ✓ Accept to keep them, ✗ Discard (or Esc) to drop them, or ↻ Try again for another go.
If the answer has a blank line in it, for example a verse and then a chorus, it becomes separate sections when you accept it. Accept is one step you can undo with ⌘ Z (Ctrl+Z on Windows and Linux). The suggestion works the same way as in Selection tools.
Ideas
Ideas brainstorms instead of writing. After "Finding ideas…" you get a short list called "Ideas for this place". Each idea has a title and a sentence about it, for example:
- The unpaid parking ticket: She's still getting his mail, and one letter brings it all back.
- Switch to the morning after: Leave the argument and open on the quiet kitchen.
Click an idea and the Space menu opens again, with "Write lines about: …" and the idea filled in. Press Enter to write lines from it, or change the words first. Esc, a click elsewhere, scrolling or typing closes the list.
The whole song as context
Each option sends the AI:
- the whole song, with its section labels
- a mark showing where the cursor is
- the song brief (title, genre, mood, words, tempo and key)
- the song's artist profile, if it has one
So Continue writing after a second verse knows what the first verse said, and Write a chorus knows the song's subject.
These tools use AI (Anthropic's Claude). Every option's tooltip says so, for example "Writes a verse here with AI (Claude)". Your lyrics are never used to train AI models. See the privacy policy.
Tips
- Fill in the song brief first. Even a one-line idea and a mood make the results much more your own.
- Use Ideas when you're stuck on what to say, and the writing options when you know what to say but not how.
- Continue writing is small on purpose: a line or two at a time keeps you in charge of where the song goes.
