Writing tools
Selection tools
Select some lines and ask for another take on them. Rewrite can improve the words, fix spelling and grammar, make the lines shorter or longer, change their tone, translate them, or make any change you describe. The suggestion appears right in your song, next to the original. Nothing changes until you accept it.
Where to find it
Select text in the editor. A bubble opens above the selection. Click Rewrite ✨ to open its menu:
- Describe the change…: a text field at the top. Type what you want, for example "make it sound like a phone call", and press Enter.
- Improve writing: rewrites the selection with the same number of lines.
- Fix spelling & grammar
- Make shorter: says the same with fewer words.
- Make longer: expands the lines with more detail.
- Change tone ▸ Professional, Casual, Straightforward, Confident or Friendly.
- Translate to ▸ Finnish, English, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, German, French, Spanish or Italian.
- Reimagine… ✨: a fresh version of the selected lines in a dialog. See Reimagine.
To rewrite a whole section, type / in it and pick Rewrite section ✨. The section's text is selected and the Rewrite menu opens.
Step by step
- Select the lines you want to change. The selection can be part of a line, a few lines, or lines across several sections.
- Click Rewrite ✨ and pick a tool, or type your own request.
- The editor shows "Writing…". Then the original lines appear struck through, with the suggestion below them.
- Choose what to do:
- ✓ Accept keeps the suggestion in place of the original.
- ✗ Discard drops it and keeps your lines. Esc does the same.
- ↓ Insert below keeps the original and adds the suggestion under it.
- ↻ Try again asks for another suggestion.
While a suggestion is open, the song is paused: you can't type in it. If you try, you'll see "Accept or discard the suggestion to keep writing". Nothing in the suggestion is saved until you accept it.
What stays the same
- The number of lines. Every Rewrite tool gives back as many lines as you selected, even Make longer. It makes the lines fuller, not more numerous.
- Your sections. The tools never add, join or remove sections. Lines selected across a verse and a chorus come back in the same verse and chorus, with the same labels.
Undo and history
Accept is a single step. Press ⌘ Z (Ctrl+Z on Windows and Linux) to go back to your lines.
The text from before is also saved in the section's version history as "Before a suggestion". You can find it there later, after many other edits. See Versions.
About the AI
The Rewrite tools use AI (Anthropic's Claude). The button's tooltip says so: "Rewrite uses AI (Claude): improve, fix, shorten, lengthen, change the tone or translate the selection".
To fit the suggestion to your song, the AI gets:
- the selected lines
- the whole song as context
- the song brief (title, genre, mood, tempo and so on)
- the song's artist profile, if it has one
Your lyrics are never used to train AI models. See the privacy policy.
Tips
- Select a little more than the problem line, so the rewrite can make the lines flow together.
- Be specific when you describe a change: "keep the rhyme on 'year'" or "less formal, more like talking to a friend".
- Use Insert below to compare two takes side by side, then delete the one you don't want.
- Pressed Try again a few times and still not happy? Keep the best one and edit it by hand. It's your song.
