Sound

Hear it sung

Hear it sung turns your lyrics into a sung take, so you can hear how the words sit in a melody before anyone picks up a guitar. It uses AI (Eleven Music) and costs credits by length: about 150 credits a minute. You always see the price before you start.

Where to find it

If you own the song or are an editor on it, you'll find Hear it sung in several places:

  • 🎧 Hear it in the editor's header, next to Write mode. It opens with Whole song chosen. On a narrow window only the 🎧 shows.
  • A section's ⋮ menu: Hear this section sung 🎧. It opens with that section chosen.
  • The header's ⋮ menu: Hear it sung ✨.
  • The / menu while you type: Hear it sung (typing "sing", "listen" or "takes" finds it too).
  • In Write mode: 🎧 Hear it sung in the controls.
  • The Takes view of the side panel: 🎧 Hear it sung ✨ at the top.

Viewers and commenters don't make takes, but they can play and download every take on the song.

Step by step

  1. Open Hear it sung from any of the places above.
  2. Under What, choose Whole song, This section (the one your cursor is in), or Selected sections (shown when your selection spans more than one).
  3. Check the style. It's filled in from the song's brief and its artist profile, and anything you change here is for this take only:
    • Genre and Mood
    • Tempo (BPM), Time signature and Key
    • Singer: Any, Female, Male or Duet
    • Sound: a few words about the sound, like "warm acoustic guitar, intimate vocal"
  4. Set the Length with the slider. It starts at a length worked out from your lines and tempo. Under it you'll see the length and its price, for example "≈ 2:40 · about 400 credits".
  5. Press Create, or Quick preview (30 s) · 75 credits to hear just the start: the first chorus of what you chose (or its first section if there's no chorus).

Once the take has started, the dialog closes and the Takes view opens with your new take in it. In Write mode you'll get a short "Singing… Your take is in Takes." instead, so you can keep writing.

While it's being sung

Your take shows Queued, then Singing…. You can carry on writing in the meantime. When it's ready you'll see "Your song is ready".

The header player

Once a song has a ready take, 🎧 Hear it in the header becomes a small player for the newest take: ▶ / ❚❚ and the take's name. The ▾ next to it opens Takes or New take…. While a take is on its way, the header says Singing….

The Takes view

Open Takes in the side panel to see every take on the song, newest first. Each one shows its name, who made it, when, its length and its state: Queued, Singing…, Ready or Failed with the reason.

  • ▶ Play plays a ready take.
  • Download saves it as an MP3 named after the take.
  • Rename changes its name (up to 100 characters).
  • Delete asks "Delete this take?" first.

You can rename and delete your own takes; the song's owner can rename and delete any take on it. Only one thing plays at a time: starting a take pauses any other take or recording that's playing.

Credits

Hear it sung is priced by length: 2.5 credits a second, about 150 credits a minute. A 30-second Quick preview is 75 credits; a 2:40 take is about 400.

  • The price is shown in the dialog before you press anything.
  • The credits are your own, the person making the take, even on someone else's song.
  • If the take comes out shorter than the length you asked for, you pay only for what was sung.
  • A failed take costs nothing. Its credits come back.

See Plans and credits for what each plan includes.

Tips

  • Describe the sound, not an artist. Real artists are never imitated: "in the style of…" or a name is refused, and so is anything Eleven Music can't use. Try "dusty drum machine, airy female vocal" instead.
  • Start with a Quick preview to check the style, then make the full take.
  • Takes sing in the song's lyrics language.

Limits

When a take fails

A failed take says why in the Takes view, and your credits come back. Common reasons are "The style mentioned something we can't use — try describing the sound instead." and "This song could not be sung. Try again, or change the style." If you're out of credits, the dialog tells you and links to where you can get more.
