Share a song with the people you write with. Invite them by email or send a link, and choose for each what they can do: edit, comment or just read. The song stays yours.

## Where to find it

Open a song and press **Share** in the editor's header. Only the song's owner sees the Share button. Once a song is shared, the button says how many people it's shared with.

In your song list, a shared song has a small people button with a number: click it to open the same dialog. All your shared songs are together on the Songs page under **Shared** (or **All shared songs →** at the bottom of the dialog).

## Step by step

### Invite someone by email

1. Press **Share**.
2. Under **Invite by email**, type their address and pick **Can edit**, **Can comment** or **Can view**.
3. Press **Invite**.

They get an email with a link that works once, for that address only, for 14 days. Until they open it, they're listed under **People with access** as "Invited · waiting for them to open the invite". Press ✕ to cancel an invite.

### Share with a link

1. Under **Share link**, pick a role and press **Create link**.
2. Press **Copy link** and send it however you like.

Anyone who opens the link joins the song with the link's role: if they're signed in, they press **Open the song**; if not, they enter their email, and the sign-in link they get opens the song. You can change the link's role at any time.

- **New link** makes a fresh address. The old one stops working.
- **Turn off** stops anyone new from joining.

People who already joined keep their access either way, until you remove them.

> **A share link isn't a public link**
>
> Everyone who joins through a share link needs an InnerHook account, and becomes a co-writer. To let anyone read the words without an account, use a [public read link](https://innerhook.com/docs/public-link/) instead.

## The roles

| What you can do | Can edit | Can comment | Can view |
|---|---|---|---|
| Read the song and its comments | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Hear takes and recordings | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Find rhymes and synonyms | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Write [comments](https://innerhook.com/docs/comments/) and replies | ✓ | ✓ | |
| [Record an idea](https://innerhook.com/docs/recordings/) | ✓ | ✓ | |
| Change the words, title and song brief | ✓ | | |
| Use the AI writing tools | ✓ | | |
| [Have it sung](https://innerhook.com/docs/hear-it-sung/) | ✓ | | |

Someone who can only view or comment can still select words and look up rhymes and synonyms. The word is copied for them to use, not written into the song.

When a co-writer has the song sung, the credits come from their own account.

### What only the owner can do

The song stays in its owner's workspace. Only the owner can share it (links, invites, people), make a public link, change its artist profile, duplicate it, delete it or restore it. Co-writers see the name of the song's artist profile, but not the profile itself.

## Changing and removing people

In **People with access**, pick a new role from the menu beside a person, or press ✕ to remove them. The change takes effect at once: a removed person is told "You no longer have access to this song". If they had changes that never reached the server, they can **Save mine as a new song** (it becomes a song of their own) or **Discard** them. The copy on their device is deleted only when nothing is waiting in it, or after that choice.

## Leaving a song shared with you

Songs others share with you are on the Songs page under **Shared**, in **Shared with you**. Press **Leave**, then confirm. You lose access at once; the owner can share it with you again.

If your device holds changes that never reached the server, you're asked first. **Save mine as a new song, then leave** keeps your text as a song of your own.

## What people see of each other

- Everyone you share with sees your name and email address.
- As the owner, you see each co-writer's name and email address.
- Co-writers see each other's names (beside their cursors and on comments), but not each other's email addresses.

## Tips

> **Tip**
>
> Give a producer or a band member **Can comment**: they can leave notes on the exact words and record a melody idea, without moving anything around.

## Limits

> **Limits**
>
> - One share link per song at a time.
> - An email invite works once and for 14 days.
> - During the beta, your links and invites can bring in a limited number of new accounts: up to 5 through one link, and 10 in all. The dialog shows how many are left. People who already have an account can always join.
> - Up to 30 invites an hour.
