# Autodraft

> Autodraft in InnerHook, a lyrics writing app: give an idea and get a first draft with labelled sections in your profile's style. 5 credits.

Canonical: https://innerhook.com/docs/autodraft/
Last updated: 2026-10-06

**Autodraft** writes a whole first draft of a song from your idea: verses, a chorus, maybe a bridge, each in its own labelled section. It's a starting point you can edit, cut or rewrite, not a finished song. If the song has an [artist profile](https://innerhook.com/docs/artist-profiles/), the draft is written in that profile's style.

## Where to find it

There are two ways to use it:

- **When you make a new song.** Open **New song** from the app's rail, or press ⌘ ⌥ N (Ctrl+Alt+N on Windows and Linux). At **Ready to write?**, pick **Autodraft ✨** ("Give an idea, get a first draft"). On the Songs page, the **Autodraft** button at the top takes you straight there.
- **In a song you already have.** Click **Autodraft** in the left rail (the first of the song's own tools, below the app's places), or type `/` and pick **Autodraft** in the **Song** group. The draft is made from the song brief.

Older versions of the app called it "Create Lyrics" or "Draft with AI". Typing `/create lyrics` or `/draft` still finds it.

## Step by step: a new song

1. Open **New song**. If you have profiles, first answer **Who is it for?**: pick a profile, or **No profile**.
2. At **Ready to write?**, pick **Autodraft ✨**.
3. Answer **What's the song about?** One line is enough, for example "Selling my dad's old boat and keeping the anchor". Add a title if you have one. The idea is the one thing Autodraft needs.
4. On the last screen, **Ready when you are**, you can add **Starting lines (optional)**: the draft will begin with exactly these lines. You can also pick **Add mood, genre, words first** to answer a few more questions.
5. Click **Autodraft ✨** (or press Enter).

The new song opens in the editor with the draft in it, already split into sections.

## Step by step: in an open song

1. Fill in the song brief in the side panel: the idea, genre, mood, words to use and avoid, starting lines. The more you give, the more it sounds like you.
2. Click **Autodraft**. A dialog opens and says "Generating lyrics..." for a moment.
3. Read the draft, then choose **Accept & Create Sections**, **Try Again** or **Cancel**.
4. If the song already has lyrics, you'll be asked what to do: **Replace song**, **Add after existing** or **Cancel**.

Changed your mind after **Replace song**? Open the **More** menu (⋮) in the editor's header and choose **Restore previous song**. This swaps back to the song the draft replaced.

## What you get

- A complete draft with labelled sections such as Verse 1, Chorus, Verse 2 and Bridge, in a song form that fits the genre. It's usually about 16 to 24 lines: three or four minutes when sung.
- Your starting lines first, word for word, if you gave any.
- Your inspiring words where they fit. Words to avoid are kept out.
- The song's language. If the language is set to Auto, the profile's language is used.

Autodraft uses AI (Anthropic's Claude). Its tooltip says so: "Autodraft uses AI (Claude) to draft a whole song from the song brief". The AI gets the song brief and, if there is one, the artist profile, including up to three of the profile's own songs as style examples. See [Artist profiles](https://innerhook.com/docs/artist-profiles/) for what a profile gives. Your lyrics are never used to train AI models. See the [privacy policy](https://innerhook.com/privacy/).

## Tips

- Write the idea like a lyric, not a summary. "The anchor's in my garage now" gives the draft more to work with than "a song about loss".
- Starting lines are the strongest steer you have. Give one real line of your own, and the rest follows its voice.
- Treat the draft as clay. Keep the one image that surprised you, then rewrite around it with [Selection tools](https://innerhook.com/docs/selection-tools/), [Reimagine](https://innerhook.com/docs/reimagine/) or your own hands.
- To get the song's form without touching its words, use **Add after existing** in a song that already has lyrics. Then move or delete sections as you like. See [Sections](https://innerhook.com/docs/sections/).

## Credits

> **Limits**
>
> - **Autodraft** costs **5 credits** a draft.
> - **Try Again** is a new draft and costs 5 credits again. A request that fails gives its credits back.
> - In a new song, Autodraft needs an idea. **Start writing** is always free.

See [Plans & credits](https://innerhook.com/docs/plans-and-credits/) for how many credits each plan gets.
